Hello All!
Like Odysseus, we are starting on a journey....a journey that will hopefully help us all to become better writers in terms of expression and how we choose to share our ideas. That is what this blog is all about. So, without further delay, let's get started. Please share your ideas on the following:
So many of us love adventure or quest stories- in fact, when I asked you about your favorite types of literature at the beginning of the semester, action/adventure was the leading category! I want to know: why do you think this is so?
Furthermore, I want you to think about the people who join us in our own personal daily "quest"- why are these individuals so important? Why are we constantly searching for the right relationships with one another and the people around us?
Lastly, I want to know: what qualities/actions/triumphs must occur in a person's life before he or she can qualify as a hero? Don't just list them out- I want to know WHY the attributes you choose are so important or necessary.
Yes, you have several questions to answer- please answer them all with thought and elaboration. Remember, I can't read your mind, and I'm guessing your classmates can't either.

I like action/adventure literature because it is interesting and fun to read. The individuals who join us in our personal daily quest are very important. They are important because whenever you need them they are always there. Also, when you’re feeling bad they are there to help make you feel better. We are constantly searching for the right relationships with one another and the people around us because you always want the feeling that you have someone who cares for you no matter what. To qualify to be a hero, I believe you must do something good for someone for a good reason. For example, if someone were to help another person find a sibling they have never met before. Another example would be someone saving a person from a fire or a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was the leading because we can connect and maybe have personal experiences with those types of stories. We love to see everyday action, and some of us maybe even like to go on personal adventures. The majority of the time good things happen in those stories. Killing and blood works may catch our attention at sometimes, but you experience good and happy endings with not only fairy tales but also with Action/Adventure stories. The people we have with us on our quest are important because we need others to experience journeys with. It may be nice to tell a story with someone who has experiences the same as yours. We search for the right relationships because we are now looking to see who will be in our future. Certain people try to impress others just to make friends, but if you have to impress someone just to make friends then maybe it’s not meant to be. To become a hero, there isn’t really a task you must overcome. People have different opinions on how to become a hero, but from my point of view you have to be able to inspire someone and help them overcome their difficulties. Being a hero in someone else’s eyes is a privilege and is nothing you should let go to your head.
ReplyDeleteI feel that people chose mostly action and adventure literature because these are interesting and unpredictable. If a book or article is exciting I am much more likely to continue to read an action filled book than a boring one. The people in our lives are sent to us to help us, guide us, and lead us to the place where God wants us to me and where we are needed. Some people in our lives may cause us conflict but they also help us in life, but they help in the long run to get us the place where we belong. Lastly, to be considered a hero a person must do something unusual or save many people’s lives, such as the pilot of the plane that had to have an emergency landing in the Hudson River. He is a hero.

I like action/adventure because they get the story behind the story, for instance they tell what a person has to do in order to reach a certain goal or point in his or her life. I think that the people around us make life look more like an obstacle course. Mainly because there's always gonna be someone there in this world that will always try to stop you in your own path. But by doing what you have set in your mind you can accomplish anything you want. Some qualities a person must have for them to become a hero in their life would probably be talking to a group of students and letting them know that they have the power to control their own life. Another would probably be being a role model to your younger siblings, teaching others right from wrong. And all of these attributes fall under the category of classifying as a hero, not one with superpowers, but one that people can look up to, and to achieve that you have to go through an adventure.
ReplyDeleteI think action/adventure will let us experience things we haven't yet seen. I think the people around us are important because they can teach you something new everyday you're together. They are by your side no matter what's the case. We constantly search for the relationship with one another around us because, we want to learn more and we want to have a relationship that will last forever and have meanings behind them. The qualities that qualify a person to become a hero is that the person must have a positive attitude towards anything that comes their ways. The person should alwaysx be ready for obstacles that may try to keep them from being successful. They should try to be a leader and not a follower such as, going to a college just because their friend chose that college.Lastly the person should always have fun in life. For instant, instead of being stuck in the house all day, you should get out and explore the world. That's my qualities for a hero.
ReplyDeleteI think action/adventure was chosen because when most people read a story or watch a movie they wnat a plot and something to look forward to in the story.People in our daily "quest" are important to me because without them i wouldnt really have a life.We constantly search for people in our lives because thats our human nature and we always want someone in life to comfort us, make us smile, and sometimes make us cry.The way we interact with different people is an adventure.To me a hero is a person who makes your life worth while or a person who you look up to and hope to be like in life.when i look at a hero i look for somebody who makes my life different or makes me look at life in a different way.
ReplyDeleteI think it was popular because in action/adventure stories the author draws you into the story with extreme detail and settings that are also very detailed so that it is not hard to picture in your head. These people are important because they can assist in your daily quest to help you complete it. We are always looking for a relationship because sometimes we need to know that someone will always be there to help out. To be called a hero you have to do good deeds and you also have to be trustworthy. For example if someone asked you to keep their prized posessions then you would be called a hero. Also if you save someone from drowning or from being hurt then you are a hero. On the other hand, if you steal or you are the one hurting someone then you are not a hero.

I think for someone to be a hero, they need to to have a good attuide and can be trusted. That perosn always need to have a good attuide because he/she could not make it to thier next step in life. They also need to be trusted because if you are not trusted then how do you expect for people to call you a hero. This are the qualities to be a hero in life.

I think those individuals are important because they help in our time of need and care for us when we feel bad. ReplyDeleteI like action/adventure literature because it is interesting and it make us feel excited through action. The people who join us in our own personal daily "quest" are very important. They are important because whenever you need them they are always there to help whatever you need. Also, when you’re feeling bad they're there to help make you feel better no matter what and will try to. We are constantly searching for the right relationships with one another and the people around us because it important that you always want to have feeling of that you have someone who cares for you no matter what. Also, it should be someone who can be very trustful. To be qualify as a hero, I think that you must do something very good for someone for a good reason and must be someone who care their people. For example, if you save everyone in town from natural disaster such as volcano or tornado. The reason i think people join us on our daily quest is that they want to help us through it all and make sure we are okay.The reason why we are searching for the right relationships in life because we want to choose or make the right decision in life. We dont want to have a rocky relationship and have nothing later. Lastly for a person to qualify as a hero he/she has to do something out of the ordinary. ReplyDeleteI think we pick Action/Adventure stories is because we like lots of action and we do not like a lot of dialogue. We like stories that are more entertaining than informing. The individuals that help us in our daily quest are important to us because they give us confidence and they give us ideas that can help us. There are some things that we cannot do ourselves, and we need the assistance of others to help us. Finally, a hero is someone who is brave, courageous, and willing to take risk. Usually, a hero is someone who puts theie life on the line for the sake of others, but sometimes a hero can be someone who people look up to. Overall, a hero has to be a leader.

So basically, what I'm hearing from you is this- sometimes those who are important in our lives are not the most positive influences, but without them, we cannot learn the difference between right and wrong, postive from negative? Are you saying that without bad things in life, we would never learn anything? I'm only asking not because I disagree with you, but because I think it's a very insightful comment. I think when we think of influences in our lives, the first thing to pop to our minds concerns positive influences. Jonathan, I think you're on to something.

The person should always be ready for obstacles that may try to keep them from being successful." I feel that this is a good point- we can all be heroes and not stop to consider ourselves as such. Think about kids who still choose to dream and strive for goals even under the worst of circumstances, or people who still have great attitudes in spite of illnesses or disabilities. We can all learn something from these individuals, especially when we think the whole world is out to get us. Good thinking, Kayla- I'm impressed. :)
I personally like action/adventure stories mainly because it's impossible to become bored. The reason I like action/adventure is because it has so much action,conflict, and explosive stuff. I think these people are helpful so they can be there every step of the way of the future. If we dont make acquantinces with them now, we wont have them in the future when we need them. Some qualities a person may need to be considered a hero is making life better for people. Many people think hero's are considered hero's just because they save peoples' lives but, that's not true. Hero's are hero's because they not only help people in need but they solve conflicts and prevent them from happening. Hero's have to trustworthy, dependable, and daring to do anything. So that's my opinion and I appreciate you for taking the time to read my review :)

ReplyDeleteThe reason why i like adventure stories is because it gets my adrenline pumping. Adventure stories are liked across the world by alot of people. Relationships are important because they play a roll in your life. The reason why we search for relationships constantly is because if we hang around certain people, then others will consider you the same. Some people have bad influences on others. Noone wants to have someone around them that makes them look bad.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a person a hero does'nt mean that they have to have a power. They can save someones life and be considered a hero. They can donate to a charity and be considered a hero. There are lots of ways that a person can gain the title of being a hero.
I think people like action/adventure storys, because you never know whats going to happen. Also i think a hero is someone other people look up to and wants to be like. A hero do not have to save no one life, but they could tell people the right things to do.

Those individuals can help us in our quest and point us in right direction. ReplyDeleteI think that action/adventure literature is the leading thing because it is interesting. Just like action movies...you just cant wait to see what comes next. The people that join us in our daily everyday life are very important. The reason for this is because when we need them the most they are always there for you. You want to make a good relationship with someone because if you dont then say something happens...well then they wont be there for you. If you make a good one, then they will be there. In other words treat others like you want to be treated. To be a hero, you should help people when they are in need. You could be anybodys hero if you try. An example of a hero is a firefighter.(: They save people from burning houses and save their houses. They risk their lives by running in a burning house just to save someone else's life. You have to be committed. :]

The individuals that join us on our “daily quest” are so important because they show us that no matter what you are never alone in anything you do. They also make us feel like you can do anything you set your mind. Like there is always some one who can help you when you are in trouble. We are always looking for the right relationship with one another because we all want some on to relate to and keep you centered. They keep you from going over the edge. I believe the qualities that make a hero are that they have to be brave. They need to be able to do things like risking their life to save some one else’s and do good deeds just because it is the right thing to do. A hero should also be adventurous. They go out into the world, traveling.

In this story they show you what a person should do to reach their certain goals in lifetime. I also think people in our life are important to us because you can learn something new . ReplyDeleteI think that adventure/action stories are enjoyed by us students because, it's alot to follow. We also can find the plot as a relating factor to our everyday lives. The people in our everyday "quest" are important because they can help you through your daily situations or be your own persomal support system. My definition as a hero is not the fact that they give large amounts of money away or do anything spectacular. In my opinion, a hero is someone that does the right thing at all times no matter who is around and treats everything in a humane way.

ReplyDeleteI love action/adventure lituarture, because it gives all aspects of drama, suspence, and knoledge of all types of things. The suspence of the story keeps you more interested then you would be in a drama, or a comedy. The new places, far and wide keep you intreged in all types of thing in the story.

ReplyDeleteWith a mistery book you will never know wht will happen or who it will happen to, and so that is why a good mistery book is good for someone to read, and they will injoy the mistery. Also you will be suprised at the misterys that you will find and what all happens! So keep your eyes open and enjoy reading the book!!!

I sometimes enjoy reading about adventure literature because they have interesting parts,some parts have drama and some are funny.

You can realate to them differently and they can also captivate you in a different way which makes it interesting!!.In adventure books it is like you are taking a journey to a new place to go an explore and learn more about it. In action storys you seem to want to read more to see whats going on or whats going to happen next and they all seem to get alot of people attention.TO become a HERO which is a really (powerful) word you most first be an example to others by inspiring them to do the right things make the right choices that will help them in life because if someone is a hero you wanna or do look up to them!!.You would want to look up to someone who is a good character to for others and yourself and for someone who always srives for the best and nothing less!!( one word LEADER)

That is why we all look for someone to have a relationship with that will help us when we need it. Befor you or anyone else can be qualifed as a hero you have to really help someone..I don't mean like save their life or anything, but like if you help someone through a deep depression or a bad time in their life then you have really helped them!! =D

We are constantly searching for the right relationships with each other because there are experiences that we would want to share with each other and explain the common things we have between it. To qualify as a hero, to me you can just do something to help someone that comes from the heart and not being stuck up waiting for someone to tell you to do something. For example, there was a old woman that hurt herself and couldn't get up and someone came and helped her, to me thats a hero because you put in your heart to help someone but u didnt have to. Other than just doing something good for someone you don't have to have special powers to do anything and if you are doing something for someone you wouldn't be waiting for a reward or thinking someone owe u something. That's what i think you should do to become a hero.

ReplyDeleteAction/adventure is probably the most popular because they are usually interesting and not slowly paced. These people are important to daily life so we are not bored all day. We search for good relationships with people so that we are not negatively affected by them. If you have a bad relationship with a higher up at work, you will be less likely to be promoted; whereas, if you have a good relationship with them, you are more likely to me promoted. People can be considered heros when they save someone; whether it is by helping them in court, helping them in school, or saving them from a fire, that person can be consider a hero in the person they help's eyes.
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of the year adventure/action were the most commonly category to read. I think that because a lot of people like to guess what will happen next during the reading. Also as for myself I like reading that kind of writing because sometimes it gives you a chance to put yourself in that persons shoe. And you might even relate to the situation going on.
ReplyDeleteI think that the people who are always in our daily quest are important because, they are the ones who are there when you are going through times when you need them. Looking for the right relationships are so important to us because we all want to have someone to be there when we need them or just to say hey. As for myself I feel that the greatest thing out of making relationships with another person is the TRUST! Everyone wants to be able t trust and tell someone how they feel.
I feel for a person to be a hero they have to earn and work for that position. Just because you do one thing really good doesn’t mean that you’re a hero. For a example if someone helps someone get back on their feet and lets them know your there for them could qualify as a hero. Or when a serious situation is happening such as family conflicts or death a person could help you out and move past it.
I think that we go through an adventure everyday but do not notice it most people in my eyes search for love and if you think about it that's and adventure its self because your looking for love.Also, these individuals are so important because without them, the person could not move in life because it doesn't have they offense, so to speak people that back you up no matter what.A person can qualify just if you had a life you think is hard and you overcome it and still living that's what a hero is to me.
ReplyDeleteI think that most people loves actions because of the excitment of the next event. In a action you do not know what will happen. In an action it is eazy to visualize the events in your head. You can here the guns or the ainamals or the screams. It is so intrusting. The person that joins me on my quest is my cousin. They are like my sidekick. They are important because when I go on my daliy journy i need someone to shear the day with me. They con tell me what to do and what not to do. The day is not complete without my friend. We search of relationships everyday because you never know when or if you might need someone. That is just how life is. You can meet someone one day and can Be nice and say hey. You might be looking for a jod the next day and you see that person they can see how nice you were and how you made a relation with them they might hire you. That is why it is important to make relations with people. Qualities that makes a hero is giveing.They will give you the shirt off their backs. They will not complane about giveing money.You don't have to be strong to be a hero. You just have to have a good head on your shoulders. You have to know what you are doing and where you want to go. They have to prove thereself. They have to show that they have the right actions and good intension. One way they can show action is they can start a protest on something they don't like and can be the only one in the protest. They will have to do the out of the ordinary.
ReplyDeleteI like action/adventure stories because they are filled with thrill,suspence,and usually have a graet plot.I feel in my opion thats why many pepole love these types of stories.I think we search for a great relationship with someone who makes you feel like your never alone. We want to meet someone who is caring,knows how you feel,and is always there for you when you need them.Thats a great feeling to be in a relationship with someone who compeletes your thoughts of a great friend.This is why I believe we are looking for a relationship with meaning.I think friends are important because they share things with you that nobody else will.My idea of a hero is anyone who feels the need to help others out at hard times.You don't have to deguise yourself with a cape and spandex to be called a hero;however,some pepole seem to beleive thats what a hero is.A hero means much more than that in my opion.
ReplyDeleteI think action/adventure is the most liked category because it has to do with alot of fighting, being phyiscal and traveling. Most people who would read a story about adventure or action would say "Oh I wish I could be there" or "I've always wanted to do something like that". Even though these stories may have a horrible endings where a life is lost or there are obsticles so great you couldnt have possibly made it out alive, people still enjoy the thrill and suspence.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the people around me ARE important no matter what! Most people dont make it far if they dont have a friend or someone to at least be there for them. I know people have family who look out for them, but it always nice to have friends to be there with you when your moment comes. The relationships we have with each other at this school are good to have and keep because your never going to know when you need them. They could be there when you need a shoulder to cry on or you could be there for them when they are in need and chances are SOME of them are going to appericate it in the end.
To me the actions that must happen in a person life for them to be classified as a hero dont have to be much. Usually a true hero is someone somebody simply looks up to. Like when a child is asked "who's your hero?" the usual response is there mom or dad. That doesnt mean that ther parents can fly or saved a life before. That child just looks up to that parent because of the average things they do everyday. That's why my hero is.......well I dont have one YET. Too many choices though.
I think people mostly choose action/adventure literature because you never know whats going to happen next.Another reason is because there is always a turning point when the story is going to get more interesting which gets the reader attention more.Some how the reader can relate to the story or it happened to them once befroe.People like them because there always lookin for a story that attracts them.

Action movies and adventure movies are a great combintion. these movies like this stuff. thats why when u see student running their either play fight or goin to a fight. if you ask student now their problemly watch scacey movies and shooting movie before an education movies
ReplyDeleteI beleive that action/adventure was the top because we as children like the excitment of the stoy of movies; it keeps us guessing and wanting more.Furthermore, I beleive that the peolpe in our daily quest of life are very important, because if we didn't have people that make mistkes in life in our own life, we would't have anything to learn from. It's like your rised typically but your mother or father and they show us the ways of life and how we are suppose to act, treat other and go through life. However, we as people search for the right relationship with people because we feel as if we need that human to human companionship.Last but not least, I beleive that a hero is jsut someone who is there with you through thick and thin, good and bad and right and wrong. Superhiman powers aren't needed to be a hero; all that is really needed is a person with a good and loyal heart that can stand by your in any time of need.

Also the people who we hang out with determines what kind of person we will be as we grow and mature. Finally we are always searching for the right relationships with one another because we want to be accepted by one another,and;seeking good relationships is the ways to do that.
I think to be a hero you must have done somthing that affects someone in a positive way. You may not be a hero to everyone but you will be a hero to the person who you did something for because what you did was probably important to them.
Well i think that people like adventure/action stories and movies because of the blood and gore in them.Then it seems like they have the best stories at times too.i like adventure/action because they have a real good story to them and then because I like to hear about other people's life's and i get to find out what they are mostly about.personally i like them more when they use areal life situatio, but they're using fake names, but are talking about a real person's life though.
ReplyDeleteNext I think that the people in our life's that we try and find relationship's with are important because most people want to have somebody to share stories with and to call a friend.I mean I make friends because I'm very social and like to have people like me. Most people like to have friend's because they want everybody to like them and then they care what people think of them and want to be friendly with everybody around them.
Lastly I think that you don't have to go through anything to be qualified as a hero.I think this because anybody can be a hero and it really doesn't matter what your past has been like.I mean you have to really think about it like,say you were a prison convict and while you were incarserated their you svaed a prison guard from gettin murdered by another convict.then that prison guard,his family,and maybe even the rest of the prison staff would look at you as hero.Another instance is say you were the world's worst father to your child but, then you come back into his life being the father he never had,He would probably look up to you as his hero.So really my answer to this is it doesn't matter what your past is like,anybody can be a hero
I think that the adventure/action is more desired by people becuase they enjoy the excitement and thrill. The people in our daily quest are important becuase they help achieve their goals and dreams. The qualities/actions/triumphs that are needed to be able to be considered a hero is intelligence, courage, fortitude and honesty. Having intelligence and courage will help on knowing the right decision and being brave enough to complete the mission. Fortitude and honesty will help in withstand the pain and being truthful and loyal.

ReplyDeleteI like action/adventure stories because they seem to catch my attention and keep me interested throughout the story. The people who are place in our daily lives and important, because they have an effect on us either good or bad. They are they if you need them to push you to what you’re trying to accomplish or they are obstacles trying to distract you. We search for relationship with others whether it’s good or bad, because we can learn for their mistakes as well as from ourselves. My opinion a hero is a person someone looks up to or influences them positively and teaches them the right and the wrong way in life, but pushes them to do what’s right and to succeed in life. For example: a person elderly person like a grandmother could be a hero, because they always try to show the younger person the golden path.

Well I personally think that most people like action/adventure because it is more interesting then nonfiction stories. I also think this because nobody ever knows what’s going to happen. I honestly have to say most stories get me bored or make me fall asleep but when it comes to adventure I can’t stop reading it this is why I think people like action/adventure better think everybody in our life are important because we can learn valuable stuff from them even if they are bad influence, for instance if we got a friend that is a bad influence we can look at all the wrong things he did and stop us from doing that something’s think no one is born a hero but you can become one by doing good deeds in life or jus around your neighborhood. I think we don’t need any powers to become a hero all we need is a heart to tell us what to do if it’s good or right. To me a hero needs to be brave like fire fighter. ReplyDeletePersonally I like action/adventure stories because they can keep you on the edge of your seat. When you are reading an action/ adveture story it is like you are actually the main character. Another good thing about an action/adventure story is that they can have you not wanting to put the book down no matter what you are doing. These types of stories can keep you asking questions in your mind such as: What will happen next? or Who is the mysterious person that is part of the story?. In all what I am saying is that everyone can ejoy no matter what your age is and no matter what gender or color you are.

I agree that "the congo" is a valid example of a African dialect and tradition only because the Congo could mean anything to anybody.Because to me "the congo" is basicly some type of dance that fits in the catergoy with jazz, and salsa, alnd etc;.When i read it i get no racist felling or nothing off it, but the first thing that comes to my mind is some type of dance.

I think those people or individuals are very importanted for me because they could help me when I realy need it or when theirs problems. Once the best has been done, a hero has the ability to detach from the outcome, knowing his/her best has already been done. A hero don't have to have superpowers all the time. It can be your father, mother, uncle, aunt, etc.
